There have been a few for me including the:

Nissan Cube

Kinja'd!!!

I used to hate it for the asymmetrical wrap around window. But it grew on me and I’m rather fond of them now.

Chevrolet Tracker

Kinja'd!!!

I used to hate these when I was younger because in my younger mind it was too small to be a “real” SUV but now I appreciate that it has body on frame, 4WD and can get livable daily driver fuel economy.

Mazda Miata

Kinja'd!!!

I used to hate Miata’s because they are small and I am tall. I’ve also never been a convertible fan, but then we got one while I was in high school for my brother to drive. I was told we were looking at Jeep Wranglers at the time so I was bitterly disappointed when instead of buying my childhood idol we bought a Miata. What I initially thought was true I couldn’t really fit in it and it was incredibly hot in the summer with the A/C broken. I also had to have the top down to fit(even in winter) but I understood the fun factor of the car over time and genuinely enjoyed it for short trips when the temperatures where cooler.

So I ask you fellow Opponauts what car did you used to hate but now like?

I used to hate...hate my dad’s xB. Then I started driving it and appreciating how much room the toaster..er car has on the inside. That and it’s rather comfy if you’re not stuck in the back seat

The W204 C-Class. The design has grown on me in the past few years, probably because I can afford one now.

The MX-5/Miata used to be viewed as a hairdresser’s car, until everyone realized it was one of the best performance bargains on the market. I used to hate the MX-5 because of the stigma attached to it, but I’ve grown to love it.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Also, the Kodo Design language Mazdas, I really had no clue what everyone was flapping their arms in the air about them, until I saw a 2013 Mazda6 in grey. It was fantastic and love at first sight.

Kinja'd!!!

Didn’t really like the Kia Optima at first either, probably the silly wheels on the early ones, also the fact that I had never really paid good attention to them.

Kinja'd!!!

Didn’t really get the fuss around the F-Type, until I saw one in person, and then I heard it. It’s now my ultimate dream car.

C4 Corvette. I used to think they were outrageously ugly. Now I just think they’re OK looking. But it’s hard to argue with the performance per dollar that a later C4 represents these days.

New corvette. Yes I know. but at first I thought it was just trying to look like a ferrari knock off, now I like it. Plus I live in SE Michigan where you see one every 2 minutes, if not less

I used to hate FWD cars. Even after owning a MkIV GTi a few years ago.

Then I got a FiST. I love that fucking car. There’s none of the understeer I experienced in many FWD cars. it’s as nimble as the Miatas I’ve loved driving, and much quicker.

The MG Z cars

Kinja'd!!!

As far as I was concerned they were just rebadged Rovers with stupid boy racer bodykits but then I got off my high horse (his name is Sugarloaf) and had an actual look at them at which point I forgot why I was so mad at them. Sure they weren’t RWD roadsters like the MGs of old

Kinja'd!!!

but if you really wanted that car, it did exist.

Kinja'd!!!

No, what they were, was a lot of cheap fun. A classmate of mine bought a ZR (the yellow one) and it was a hoot and then I got a go in a ZS (Left Blue) and ended up wanting one (Insurance for these are ridiculous so that didn’t happen). In the end, I learned not to judge a book by it’s rear spoiler.

I wouldn’t say I hated it, but I didn’t understand the appeal of the Range Rover sport until I drove one. The normal Range Rover still feels too big for my taste though.

BMW Z8. I used to think it was ugly and didn’t look anything like the other BMWs at the time. Now I love it because it doesn’t look anything like the BMW’s at the time, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

Back in the 2000s, I hated the Morgan Aero 7. Screamed “European Pretentiousness” with its early 20th century Penis-car looks and its wooden construction. It also had retarded cross eyed headlamps.

Kinja'd!!!

They eventually fixed the headlights and I learned to like it (wooden construction is pretty sick).

The new BMW X5. I thought that the front end was too big, but I’m starting to dig them. Probably because the things are EVERYWHERE!

I hated the Juke when it came out, and then warmed to it frighteningly quickly. That turned out to be a good thing, since my partner bought one. It’s not a bad car to drive, even with the CVT.

I consider these - ZR, in particular- every now and then. Ultimately, I'm always stopped by insurance and dodgy head gaskets.

True as a result I’ve always been more interested in the V6 ZS & ZT as the head gasket thing was a problem for the 4 banger but that will always be interest as the two cars I’ve experienced first hand both had owners who worked in insurance call centres who enjoyed 50%-80% off.

Same. HATED it. But now I don’t, there’s something funky about it.

Maybe cars are so ugly and over-designed these days, that the Juke is finally acceptable.
